About AAWIC Online Media Series

Celebrating the upcoming 22nd AAWIC Film Festival, this monthly series will highlight the works of African American Women In Cinema A-list members. This online presentation will feature shorts, and feature films. This unique program will enable our viewing audience to support women of color filmmakers through African American Women In Cinema Organization.

The audience will be able to donate, support and view the works of these talented filmmakers. Each participating AAWIC A-list member will receive a grant.

Filmmaker, Khadidiatou Sow, was trained at “L’ecole des Beaux Arts de Dakar” (School of Fine Arts of Dakar). In 2004, she worked as script supervisor, costume designer, and then as assistant director on multiple features short movies. After her training in Paris at the “Atelier Varan” in 2007, she directed her first short film.

UNE PLACE DANS L’AVION — A radio station announces that there are some limited open seats on a plane bound to the USA—no strings attached, first come first served.  Moussa, who always dreamed of immigrating to the USA, decided to try his luck. Amy, Moussa’s wife, tries in vain to talk sense to him to let the young people go to the USA.

La Promesse

Filmmaker, Fatou Toure Ndiaye, trained at the Media Center in Dakar and worked as a production intern at LS2, an audiovisual production company. Since 2013, she has been working on feature and short film projects, and television series as a scriptwriter and assistant director. The Promise is Fatou’s first short fiction film.THE PROMISE —A young woman, Sophie, is married and has converted into a devoted housewife. She has created a beautiful home and atmosphere, and then, one day receives the shock of her life from her husband.

SELBE

Selbe is a young woman, who works as a maid to help support her family and paid her tuition at the National School of Administration (ENA) for law. Handling her daily core and studies under the supervision of her means lady boss, make her life extremely difficult.

Selbe doesn’t shy away from the difficult and demanding task to follow her dreams. She seems to excel with the help and guidance of her boyfriend, a student himself in the same school.
